LENDONWOOD FALL PLANT SALE SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 25

A wide variety of plants will be for sale to benefit Lendonwood Gardens on Saturday, September 25. Last year’s sale focused on irises and daylilies, but this year more than a dozen kinds of plants will be available for purchase.  Additional donations of seeds and plants are welcomed.

Plants on sale will include daylilies, irises, hostas, Japanese maple seedlings, Mahonia grape holly, oxalis, phlox, cannas, crape myrtles, Louisiana iris, daffodils, surprise lilies, hen-and-chicks, bee balm, monkey grass, and a variety of seeds.

Anyone interested in donating seeds or plants should contact volunteer Ela Johnson at 816-749-8493.

“We were very pleased with the success of the 2020 sale, and want to build on that,” said Jim Corbridge, president of the Lendonwood Board of Directors. “This year, many of the plants on sale will be drawn from Lendonwood itself, but others are being donated by friends of the garden.”

Corbridge said, “We are grateful to everyone donating plants, seeds, and bulbs to support Lendonwood. Our non-profit botanical garden depends on the continuing help of volunteers, friends, donors, and the community.”

The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the back of the garden near the Maintenance Barn. Customers should use the driveway just west of the Welcome Center at 1308 Har-Ber Road. Parking will be available around the sale area.

Lendonwood is open every day from dawn to dusk.  Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Children 12 and under and members are free. Plant-sale customers will be admitted free of charge on the day of the sale.

The garden’s new Welcome Center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including during the September 25 plant sale. The Center includes a gift shop, meeting room and handicap-accessible restrooms.

Lendonwood is an eight-acre, non-profit botanical garden in Grove, managed by a Board of Directors. The garden is maintained by volunteers and supported through memberships, donations and admission fees.
